Will AI take my job?

This is the question underneath most of the anxiety, so let's answer it directly. For the large majority of people: AI is far more likely to change parts of your job than to replace it.

The useful way to think about it

Your job is not one thing — it's a bundle of tasks. AI is good at some of those tasks (drafting, summarizing, first-pass research) and useless at others (judgment, relationships, accountability, knowing what actually matters to your customer or your boss). The tasks it's good at tend to be the ones you like least anyway.

The people who lose out aren't the ones who ignore AI. They're the ones who refuse to learn it while a colleague quietly does.

What to actually do

• •Pick one annoying, repetitive part of your week and try doing it with an AI tool once.
• •Judge it like you'd judge a new hire's first draft — helpful, but check the work.
• •Don't try to "learn AI" in the abstract. Learn it on one real task you already have.
